“Mating Rituals”

Produced by Public Assembly

Bill is a sandhill crane who was separated from his flock during migration. Mating season approaches as he starts over in a new lagoon, but he never learned the ways of the mating dance. With the other cranes refusing to help, Bill enlists the help of bowerbirds, peacocks, and more to understand the art the courtship — and what it means to mate with someone for life. Mating Rituals uses movement, music, and avian installation art to explore the ways we try to show others — and ourselves — why we’re worth loving.
